Jeffrey Adelson is well known as an expert in the field of Worker’s Compensation and employment practices. He has been in practice for more than 40 years with experience in subrogation, civil litigation, criminal, and domestic issues. Mr. Adelson has also provided coverage opinions in worker’s compensation cases. He comes to BPK as the previous co-founder of Adelson Mclean and the National Managing Partner and General Counsel for Adelson Testan and Brundo.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from California State University, Fullerton, and his Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law. Mr. Adelson has completed numerous courses in Advanced Legal Education from the University of Southern California Law Center. In addition, he has completed courses in the fields of orthopedic medicine, psychiatric medicine, and human anatomy at Los Angeles General Hospital through USC Medical School.
Mr. Adelson has his teaching credential and has been an instructor at community colleges, university extension courses, presenting on workers’ compensation, subrogation, and employment issues. Most recently he authored an article on the impact of bullying in the workplace for IRMI. Mr. Adelson was also recently published in the Workers’ Compensation Quarterly for the workers’ compensation section of the California Lawyers Association on the topic of defending claims filed under California Labor Code Section 132a.
Mr. Adelson speaks publicly on various topics throughout the country to employers, insurers, and labor groups. Most recently he presented at the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) annual conference on the EK vs. See’s Candy case and the attack on the exclusive remedy in the courts. Other presentation topics have included the defense of 132a claims, emotional intelligence for adjusters, as well as topics on diversity and inclusion.
He has been interviewed and quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Business Insurance Magazine, The Orange County Business Journal, and multiple private industry publications.
Mr. Adelson is an active member of CLM having served on the Worker’s Compensation Committee and presented at numerous CLM conferences. He earned the CLM certification in Legal Claims Management following an intensive three-day course at Columbia School of Law. Mr. Adelson was a professor at the CLM Claims College for 8 years teaching courses on cumulative trauma/occupational disease and trial practice. He has been awarded the designation of Advanced Claims Professional by the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance.
Mr. Adelson is a member of ClaimsXchange, CLM, and SERMA. He has also served on the workers’ compensation committee for DRI.
He has performed independent audits of claims for several Fortune 500 companies addressing systemic issues in claims handling, providing comprehensive strategies for improved processes and closure of files. He has managed claims closure projects for insurance companies and large employers, successfully reducing open claims and reserves.
He is a member of the California State Bar, The Iowa Bar, and the District of Columbia Bar. He is admitted to various Federal courts as well as the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. Adelson lives in Newport Beach, California. He loves his family, baseball, and music, mostly loud with a good beat but will drag himself out to the opera on occasion.
